Anattalakhana sutta

(A) On the full moon day of Waso, at Isipatana, Migadawon forest near Varanasi, Buddha taught the Dhammacakka Pavattana to five ascetics; Kondanna, Vappa, Boddiya, Mahanam and Assaji. ( five ascetics = the group of five were the monks who had previously followed the Bodhisatta while he was practicing austerities and who later heard the First Discourse and became the Buddha's first disciples.)
(B) In succession by one another after attainment of Sotapatti Phala on consecutive days, (on the 5th of waning Waso month) Buddha taught them the Anatta Lakkhana sutta for the attainment of Arahatta Phala. O, Good persons, let's recite this Anatta Lakkhana sutta now.

The introduction of Anattalakkha Sutta:
At one time, Buddha was staying in Isipatana, the Deer park, near the township of Varanasi. There the the Bhagava addressed the group of five Bhikkhus 'O! Bhikkhus, and the Bhikkhus answered, " Bhante" , then the Bhagava spoke thus: -

"Matter, Bhikkhus, is neither the self nor a living entity" If matter, Bhikkhus, were the self, then matter would not tend to sickness, and one could say of matter, "Thus let matter happen to me this way (in favorable condition), let matter not to happen to me this way (in unfavorable condition)". But, Bhikkhus in as much as matter is not the self, which is why matter tends to sickness. And one cannot say of matter, "Thus let matter be thus for me, let matter not be thus for me."

"Feeling, Bhikkhus, is neither the self nor a living entity" If feeling, Bhikkhus, were the self, then feeling would not tend to sickness, and one could say of feeling, "Thus let feeling happen to me this way (in favorable condition), let feeling not to happen to me this way (in unfavorable condition)". But, Bhikkhus in as much as feeling is not the self, which is why feeling tends to sickness. And one cannot say of feeling, "Thus let feeling be thus for me, let feeling not be thus for me."

"Perception, Bhikkhus, is neither the self nor a living entity" If perception, Bhikkhus, were the self, then perception would not tend to sickness, and one could say of perception, "Thus let perception happen to me this way (in favorable condition), let perception not to happen to me this way (in unfavorable condition)". But, Bhikkhus in as much as perception is not the self, which is why perception tends to sickness. And one cannot say of perception, "Thus let perception be thus for me, let perception not be thus for me."

"Mental formation, Bhikkhus, is neither the self nor a living entity" If mental formation, Bhikkhus, were the self, then mental formation would not tend to sickness, and one could say of mental formation, "Thus let mental formation happen to me this way (in favorable condition), let mental formation not to happen to me this way (in unfavorable condition)". But, Bhikkhus in as much as mental formation is not the self, which is why mental formation tends to sickness. And one cannot say of mental formation, "Thus let mental formation be thus for me, let mental formation not be thus for me."

"Consciousness, Bhikkhus, is neither the self nor a living entity" If consciousness, Bhikkhus, were the self, then consciousness would not tend to sickness, and one could say of consciousness, "Thus let consciousness happen to me this way (in favorable condition), let consciousness not to happen to me this way (in unfavorable condition)". But, Bhikkhus in as much as consciousness is not the self, which is why consciousness tends to sickness. And one cannot say of consciousness, "Thus let consciousness be thus for me, let consciousness not be thus for me."

What do you think of this, Bhikkhus? Is matter permanent or impermanent? Impermanent, Bhante. And Bhikkhus, what is impermanent, is that suffering or happiness? Suffering, Bhante. Then, Bhikkhus what is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change, is it fitting to regard it thus, "This is mine, this is I, this is the self for me?" Not fitting, Bhante.

Is feeling permanent or impermanent? Impermanent, Bhante. And Bhikkhus, what is impermanent, is that suffering or happiness? Suffering, Bhante. Then, Bhikkhus what is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change, is it fitting to regard it thus, "This is mine, this is I, this is the self for me?" Not fitting, Bhante.

Is perception permanent or impermanent? Impermanent, Bhante. And Bhikkhus, what is impermanent, is that suffering or happiness? Suffering, Bhante. Then, Bhikkhus what is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change, is it fitting to regard it thus, "This is mine, this is I, this is the self for me?" Not fitting, Bhante.

mental formation permanent or impermanent? Impermanent, Bhante. And Bhikkhus, what is impermanent, is that suffering or happiness? Suffering, Bhante. Then, Bhikkhus what is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change, is it fitting to regard it thus, "This is mine, this is I, this is the self for me?" Not fitting, Bhante.

Is consciousness permanent or impermanent? Impermanent, Bhante. And Bhikkhus, what is impermanent, is that suffering or happiness? Suffering, Bhante. Then, Bhikkhus what is impermanent, suffering, and subject to change, is it fitting to regard it thus, "This is mine, this is I, this is the self for me?" Not fitting, Bhante.

Therefore, Bhikkhus, being impermanent, suffering and subject to change, whatever matter there is, be it past, future or present, inward or outward, gross or subtle, low or lofty, far or near, matter of all kinds should be regarded by right wisdom, " This is not mine, this I am not, this is not the self for me."

Therefore, Bhikkhus, being impermanent, suffering and subject to change, whatever feeling there is, be it past, future or present, inward or outward, gross or subtle, low or lofty, far or near, feeling of all kinds should be regarded by right wisdom, " This is not mine, this I am not, this is not the self for me."

Therefore, Bhikkhus, being impermanent, suffering and subject to change, whatever perception there is, be it past, future or present, inward or outward, gross or subtle, low or lofty, far or near, perception of all kinds should be regarded by right wisdom, " This is not mine, this I am not, this is not the self for me."

Therefore, Bhikkhus, being impermanent, suffering and subject to change, whatever mental formation there is, be it past, future or present, inward or outward, gross or subtle, low or lofty, far or near, mental formation of all kinds should be regarded by right wisdom, " This is not mine, this I am not, this is not the self for me."

Therefore, Bhikkhus, being impermanent, suffering and subject to change, whatever consciousness there is, be it past, future or present, inward or outward, gross or subtle, low or lofty, far or near, consciousness of all kinds should be regarded by right wisdom, " This is not mine, this I am not, this is not the self for me."

So seen, Bhikkhus, the well taught noble disciple is disgusted with matter, disgusted with feeling, disgusted with perception, disgusted with mental formation, disgusted with consciousness. So being disgusted, he is dispassionate. Through dispassion, he is free from craving. When he is freed, he knows that it is freedom. Further he knows that birth is ended. The Holy life has been lived. What was to be done has been done. Nothing further has to be done for this noble path.

This is what the Buddha had said and the group of five Bhikkhus was delighted and rejoiced at what the Buddha had explained. After this explanation was done, the minds of five Bhikkhus were freed from Asava; ( four Asava: desire, craving, wrong belief, ignorance).

Here ends the Anattalakhana sutta.

what is leadership?

I ‘d like to explain about leadership and management The purpose of the paper want students know about it very well.
I will introduce the topic following: It needs to understand   management theories , organizational structure, motivation, leadership, decision-making, communication, budgeting process, analyzing, improving, teaching and human resource administration.
           What is leadership?
A person who leads a group, organization (or) country is leader. It is consider how previous learning and experience influence the speed and accuracy with which a leader can assess the situation, and subsequently determine the most appropriate course of action.

Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to make something extraordinary happen.
         They have five qualities.
  1. They must be Transform values into action.
  2. They must be visions into realities.
  3. They must be obstacle into innovation.
  4. They must be separateness into solidity.
  5. They must risk into rewards.
  How do you  think ?
  What make a great  leader?
  Are leaders born or made?
Are there common traits that all leaders possess?
  Can anyone become leader?

  How smart are our leader?
Leadership is not born. We can be a leadership. Everyone can make as great leader.
Leadership is not word but in action.
Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.
It is the most important to get a great leadership everywhere.
At the school, at the university or at the country, every one has chance to become a good leadership.
Leaders manage through Emotional Intelligence. They are self–aware and can manage their emotions.
They are also attuned to the feelings of others and are able to gauge their organization’s emotional state.
Emotional Intelligence can be learned and improved at any age. But Emotional Intelligence does not necessarily only come from life-experience.
Reading, listening, observing, understanding, and appreciation help us to improve in the our goal.
Effective leadership development requires a positive desire, rather than a negative motivation on the part of the individual.
Emotional Intelligence is important for effective leaders.

Decision making…
A leader’s approach to decision-making and problem solving will depend on a number of factor and beyond the style of leadership demonstrated.

There are two decision-making.
  1. Programmed decision-making
  2. Non-programmed decision-making
I now want to discuss self-leadership.
The essence of all individual, team and organization can change.
  Visionary leadership demands courage.
  Team unity means individual enrolment.
  Organizational change can demand self-change.
Leaders must incorporate self-leadership through all the change philosophies, process, programmes and tools .
Leaders must give adequate time and effort, on self-leadership, and “walk their talk”.
Leaders must continually refer to their personal purpose, values, vision and courage.
After explaining about leadership, I will explain about management now.

           What is management?
Is the act of running and controlling?
  Is commanding not managing?
So, we will discuss about management now.
Management is about proper guidance in order to maximize benefits and minimize the loses.
You are now living in the knowledge age.
Management is part of knowledge which is also understanding of intellectual works.
General management refers managing skills for everything including biz management, time management, life management… etc.
  Management generates effectiveness and efficiency.
Without management skill, it is like the man without brain.
           Some are born to eat.
           Some are born to do.
Successful people are not afraid to fail and are willing to take risks. Unless you step out of your comfort zone , you will never be able to grow develop, and succeed at anything.
It’s been said that the comfort zone is the killer of human potential and it is! The reason people don’t like getting out of their comfort zone is primarily because of fear of failure.
So, if you want to success, you must be a good management.  Self-interests come first .

What should be in second?
Your community, your nationality becomes second.
  This is about life management.
When we study about “management”, we should know the “functions” and how it works.
Functions are the fundamental of general management.
Tactic, strategy and grand strategy are also higher level of management.
                            Functions of management
  1. planning          2. organizing
  3. leading            4. controlling
There are four functions of management.
  1. planning chooses appropriate organizational goals and courses of action to best achieve these goals.
  2. Organizing establishes task and authority relationship that allow people to work together to achieve organizational goals.
  3. leading motivate, coordinate , and energize individuals and groups to work together to achieve organizational goals.
  4. controlling establish accurate measuring and monitoring systems to exclude how well the organization has achieved its goals.
                                       Planning
The act (or) process of making  that you intend to achieve.
                                     Organizing
To arrange for something to happen (or) to be provided
                                        Leading
To motivate, coordinate and energize other to do.
                                       Controlling
     Giving platform, guidance and checking. And then, we must be planning four following;
  1. forecasting, Establishing, and Objectives
  2. devising, strategies
  3. developing policies
  4.  setting  goals
Organizing is also the same way.
  1.  achieve coordinated effort
  2.  defining task and authority relationships
  3.  departmentalization
  4.  delegation of authority
  Leading must also be four following;
  1.  Give other people the direction to accomplish specific objectives.
  2.  understanding the real situation
  3.  inspiring others to do
  4.  Role model can make somebody having feeling or emotion.
Controlling is also the same way.
  1.  Ensure actual operations conform to planned operations.
  2.  Management in other way is about allocating and accommodating your resource most effectively.
                                   A few of resources
  1. Financial resources
  2. Physical resources
  3. Human resources
  4. Technological resources
  5. Intellectual resources….etc
  When we make doing anything, we have to do the decision making-process as follow;

  1. Identify the problem
  2. collect relevant information
  3.  develop alternative
  4.  evaluate decision
  5.  implement decision
  6.  select best alternative
                        What is motivation?
The willingness to do something is condition by the action’s ability to satisfy   some   need for the individual.
                            Sources of motivation
  1. Personal characteristics
  2. Nature of the job

  3. Nature of the organization
  These are individual motivation.
After the study and in use of swot analysis, your management will be more effect.
  S. strength          (internal)
  W. weakness       (internal)
  O. opportunity    (external)
  T. threat             (external)
                             Organizational resistance
  1.  Structural inertia
  2.  limited focus of change
  3.  group inertia
  4.  threat to established power relationships
  5.  threat to established resource allocations.
Now, we will compare leadership and management.
Lead not manage, there is an important different. (Bennis, 1989)
Leadership focuses on doing the right thing, management focuses on doing
  things right. (covey,1996)
Managers perform functions in organizations and hold a
particular, formal, title and fulfils a role .(Brooks, 2003)
          Leading and managing complementary disciplines

       Leading                                       managing
  1.Setting direction,                         planning and budget
     structures,
Purpose, vision and                     targets, goal action  and
  Strategies for effecting change.       Resources.
  2. aligning people                           organizing and staffing
      setting
Creating coalitions,                      structure , defining job,
      Getting commitment                    managing people
  3. Sustaining motivation                   controlling actual           expected
Keeping people moving               performance, corrective        action
       In right direction
So, leadership and managements are the most important to learn or study our school.
If we have to learn leading and managing in our school, we will improve more and more in the future.
I understand everyone can make a good leader and manager that they have a great ambition.
           What about goals?
The purpose of goals is to focus our attention.
A goal is nothing more than a dream with a time limit.
People with goals succeed   because they know where they are going. There is no achievement without goals.
So, all students should be planning our goals where we want to get there.
